F#@k Perfectionism & Cheers To My First Blog Post

Just do it already! PRESS SEND! Is what I’ve been telling myself the last few days. I’ve been so excited about launching my blog and my new video training series that I missed the mark. I’ve been working on the material for weeks and when it was time to deliver I bombed!

Why? Because I wanted that ish to be perfect. I wanted my first ever blog post on this blog to be the best ish anyone has ever read from me.

Of course trying to be perfect and focusing on what others might think about my first post was the dumbest ish I could ever do. Here’s why.

While I spent time trying to make this post perfect I missed out on a chance to share a message that could have benefited someone yesterday.  I wrote several posts and recorded and edited at least five videos on empowerment and on how to build your online brand.

Will you ever see them?

HECK NO! Why? Because I was in total comparison mode. I didn’t feel like they were 100% me and good enough for my readers. Plus, I kept thinking about all of my favorite blogs and thinking this ish sucks!

After allowing fear to take over for a while,  I realized that it’s really not up to me to decide if it was perfect or not. The point is that I have a message to deliver on time and it’s time that I JUST DO IT ALREADY!

I wish I’d repeated Theodore Roosevelt’s quote as an affirmation “COMPARISON IS THE THIEF OF JOY” a thousand times while I was deleting and re-recording my vlogs and training videos.

I know I’m not the only one who’s allowed perfectionism to delay their dreams. Whether you’re writing your latest offer, blog post or planning your next vacation it’s time to let that ish go so you can grow.

The truth is perfectionism is nothing but the ego luring you into a corner just to stop you from living your dreams. When we allow that inner critic to take over we become so scared that we delay our dreams or worse we just give up.

So, how do you stop it from ruining your chance at success?

Just say HECK NO to perfectionism.

You say no by taking the time to prepare and knowing that your work is good enough.

You say NO by remembering that you’re doing what you love so that you can help others therefore that message needs to get out there.

You say HECK NO by saying HECK YES to your inner champion and know that you know what the heck you’re talking about and keep it moving.

The next time you are writing a blog post, planning a training, putting together the finishing touches of your next program and you start comparing yourself to others remember that “Comparison is the thief of joy.”

No matter what, always remember that your talents and message is unique and as long as you’re giving value there is someone out there that will find it perfect. So get over yourself already and JUST DO IT!

So cheers to the first ever blog post on the Love Your Brand blog and say F**k it to perfectionism.

Time to take action: I would love to hear from you. Have you ever allowed perfectionism to delay you in anyway? If so, how did you get over it? Share with me in the comments below.
